Faith That Moves Mountains: How to Strengthen Your Trust in God

“And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17:20-21).

Faith is the foundation of our walk with Christ. It is the unshakable belief that God is absolutely who He says He is and that He will do exactly what He has promised according to His Word. But in a world full of tests, and trials, it can sometimes feel difficult to trust God with your whole heart. It can feel as though your faith is not strong enough to withstand the challenges.

But, be of good courage! There is good news for you. Just as a mustard seed starts out very small but grows into a mighty tree, your faith can and will develop and become unwavering when you commit to tending to it properly.

In this blog post, let’s explore ways in which you can strengthen your trust in God so that you can have the kind of faith that moves mountains as Jesus said.

1. Understand What Faith Really Is

Faith is not wishful thinking. It is confidence in God’s character, nature,  and His promises, even when you can’t see how things will unfold or understand what’s happening in your life.

Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

This means that faith is substance and evidence. It is trusting in the unseen reality of God’s power and goodness, believing, without doubt, that He is always working all things for your good.

Faith is Active, Not Passive

Faith requires action. James 2:26 says, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” We must remember that true faith will produce obedience. When we trust God and His perfect will, we move in obedience, even when the path is unclear or uneasy.

2. Strengthen Your Faith Through God’s Word

Immersing yourself in Scripture is one of the most powerful ways to grow in faith.

Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

God’s word reminds us of His promises, reveals His character, and strengthens our trust in Him.

Practical Ways to Stay Rooted in Scripture:

Daily Bible Reading: Set aside time each day to read and meditate on God’s Word.

Memorize Scripture: Hide God’s promises in your heart so that you can recall them in difficult times.

Use a Bible Study Tool: Use a journal to write down points and revelations as you study God’s word.  One valuable tool is The Proverbs Journal.

3. Develop a Consistent Prayer Life

Prayer is our direct line of communication with God. It is through prayer that we express our trust in Him, seek His guidance, and surrender our worries. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us:

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplications with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.”

Tips to Strengthen Your Prayer Life:

Follow Christ’s example:

In Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus gives the clear instruction of “after this manner therefore pray ye”. Praying what is considered “The Lord’s Prayer” is a valuable and helpful guide for praying.

Be Consistent: Oftentimes we may struggle with consistent praying. Before we know it, we will have gone days and months without praying. No matter what, make it a daily goal to pray.

Keep a Prayer Journal: Write down your prayers and track how God answers them. Also write down what God says to you.

4. Trust God’s Timing and Sovereignty

One of the biggest obstacles to faith is impatience. We want answers now, solutions immediately, and breakthroughs instantly. But faith means trusting God’s timing, even when it doesn’t seem to align with our own desires and timing.

Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

How to Trust in God’s Timing:

Surrender: Acknowledge that God knows best. It is He that has made you!

Reflect on Past Faithfulness: Recall how God has come through before and believe that He will do it again.

Practice Patience: Instead of trying to rush the process, rest in the knowledge that God’s timing is perfect.

Declare His Promises: Speak and believe His Word over your situation.

5. Step Out in Faith and Obedience

Faith is like a muscle, it grows stronger when you use it. If you never step out in faith, you won’t experience God’s power in action.

Hebrews 11 displays men and women who stepped out in obedience and faith and saw God move mightily in their lives. Noah built an ark before it rained. Abraham left his homeland without knowing where he was going. Moses stretched out his staff before the Red Sea and it parted.

How to Step Out in Faith:

Say Yes to God’s Call: If He is leading you to do something, obey even if you feel unqualified.

Take Small Steps: Faith is trusting God in everyday decisions. Faith is trusting God in everything.

Refuse to Let Fear Hold You Back: Fear and faith cannot coexist. Choose to trust God rather than fear.

6. Live a Life of Gratitude and Praise Unto God

A thankful heart is vital to the strengthening of your faith. When we intentionally focus on God’s goodness, we cultivate a perspective of trust.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says:

“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Ways to Cultivate Gratitude:

Keep a Gratitude Journal: It is a wonderful practice to write down things you’re thankful for daily. Take the time to give God praise for the mighty works of His hand in your life.

Praise God in Advance: Thank Him for hearing and answering your prayers.

Celebrate Every Win: Recognize how God is working in your life, even in small ways.

Conclusion

Strengthening your faith is a journey, but by immersing yourself in Scripture, developing a consistent prayer life, trusting in the perfected timing of God’s, surrounding yourself with strong believers, stepping out in obedience, enduring trials with perseverance, and cultivating a heart of gratitude, you will see your faith grow exponentially.

Trust in Him, and watch as your faith moves mountains.
