Are You Crockpot Living?
I constantly find myself gaining blog post inspiration from my Pastor’s messages and teachings.
KCFI State Overseer Thomas A. Pulliam, Sr. always says something that sparks an idea for a social media post, t-shirt, coffee mug, tumbler, book, candle, podcast, and blog.
Not too long ago, he made reference to how some people are just crockpots, simmering with all manner of “ingredients”. From despair to depression. From anger to bitterness. From grudges to hatred. Crockpot living is more common than not.
Now, I know that some who read this will think that they are not in the number of those who are crockpot living, and that is fine. To you, I’d ask if you know someone who is crockpot living, please encourage them to empty the crockpot, unplug it, and throw it away!
But what is a crockpot, anyway? Well, a crockpot is a type of cookware that allows you to cook food unattended for a long time. The food cooked in this device, which comes in different sizes, is usually cooked at a low temperature. Key point, LOW TEMPERATURE!
Okay, for those who are Crock Potters, let’s deal with some things, shall we?
What size is your crockpot?
Do you have a 2-quart sized crockpot? A small sized pot of just a couple of issues or ingredients. Nothing to be alarmed about and sure, you can definitely handle it. You’ll pray about the issues, declare the Word of God, and move forward. Emptying this crockpot may not be difficult for you. Oh, but be careful, this size fills up quickly!
Are you dealing with a 4-quart sized pot? A little larger in size with a few more ingredients than the 2-quart sized crockpot. You may have some bitterness and some extra ingredients such as envy, jealousy, or maybe some malice. While this size fills up rather quickly, it takes a tad bit longer to fill up than the smaller size.
Now, if you are dealing with a 6-quart sized crockpot, you definitely have several ingredients that can be put in there. Or, you could just have a lot of one thing. With the 6-quart sized crockpot, you carry a larger weight than the previous two sizes. It can be quite burdensome and wearying. Oh, but there is another size!
Introducing the 10-quart sized crockpot! With this sized crockpot, you are definitely carrying a heavy weight that is so easily besetting you (Hebrews 12:1,KJV). Again, it can be a number if ingredients or issues. On the other hand, it can be a couple of ingredients or issues in large quantities. Either way, this can’t be a good feeling. Let’s get into what’s in your crockpot.
What’s in the Crockpot?
What ingredients do you have in your crockpot? Regardless of the size, one thing is clear: something is in that crockpot, and you’ve got to deal with it. Take an inventory of your crockpot’s contents. See if you have any of the following:
- Bitterness
- Anger
- Malice
- Vengeance
- Hatred
- Jealousy
- Backbiting
- Envy
- Holding grudges
- Unforgiveness
- Spite
- Disobedience
- Rebellion
- Deceit
- Doubt
- Fear
- Discord
- Covetousness
- Vanity
- Greed
Just to name a few!
Are any of those in your crockpot? Maybe some more than others? Whatever is in your crockpot, it’s time to deal with it.
Simmering Living
One of the reasons why people choose to use crockpots is because of the “slow cook” effect. They can set it and forget it, so to speak. Well, if you are crockpot living, that’s pretty much what you are doing as well. You have these ingredients (from the list above), all placed in this pot, you set the temperature on either low or high, depending on your emotional status. Then, you let the simmer begin.
Day by day, you are simmering on what people have said to you, done to you, what you’ve not done, or did. You’re simmering on feelings towards others, any treatment that you deem unfair, or how you felt years ago that is easily triggered by any sudden movement.
Truth is that crockpot living is not Titus II Living. The word of God says to lay aside every weight. This is the complete opposite of letting weights simmer in your crockpot. And by crockpot, I mean your heart.
Getting Passed Crockpot Living
Have no shame in praying Psalms 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me”. But don’t forget to do your part because there is work that you must do. Lay aside your weights. Turn off the crockpot. Unplug it. Clean it out and get rid of it!
If not, you’ll find yourself year after year (Happy New Year, by the way) battling with yourself over the same residue that has been simmering over time.
It’s a new year so get rid of your crockpot and the weights that have filled it!
Do you need someone to talk to? Reach out to me. I’m a great listener. But know that I will push you to empty your crockpot and get rid of it! We don’t do pity here!
God is faithful, gracious, and kind. He loves you with an unwavering love. But His word is pure and true! It’s time to let some things go. You might need to call someone and make a mends. Maybe you need to just journal out your thoughts, feelings, and heart. Maybe you need to fast and pray through it all.
There are plenty of solutions. God’s word is full of them. So, will you make the choice to give up crockpot living and try Titus II Living where we apply God’s word to every area of our lives?
I sure hope so! Stay praying, stay believing, stay Titus II Living!
